How do you get out of a pillow hold in Judo?

Here%26#039;s what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egaFuRTvL...

If you get stuck in that position, is there any way to get out of it? Or are you just screwed?|||I would recommend the bridge and roll escape.

This escape is one of the three basic escapes of this hold. First, you get a grip on your partner (there are several way to do this, like one hand behind the head the other on the belt, both hand on the belt, your sensei can show you others). From there, turn into your partner and place your knee under their leg. Push their head towards the mat, and when they push back towards you bridge up on your shoulder and pull them across you at an angle.

These videos have several different way to escape and are easy to understand. Overall, this version of Kesa gatame is not much harder to escape than the mor traditional one. Most problems people have with this one that I have noticed come from them not being a famliar with it as some of the other variations.

Judoinfo.com might have a few vidoes and tips as well, and you could always post this question on the Forum.|||It has been a while for me in judo, but I have never heard of a pillow hold. However, we did do this pin. We just called it kesa gatame. You would use the same techniques to escape kasa gatame.

First you do not allow him to get the hold all the way locked in. In the event he does there are several escapes. First thing wrong with this guy pin is that his head is up too high. Take advantage of this. Take you free hand and use it around his head and cause him to roll over. You may have to swing your legs up first and use your momentum to roll this guy over and now you will have him in a pin. Keep your head low to keep him from rolling you. You want your head as close to the ground as you can get it.

Some people would use a similar technique to get out. When you use you arms to pull his head toward your legs. Instead of swing your legs up then down to roll they would take the legs and wrap one around the head to pull the guy off. This is a good escape because the legs are stronger than your arms.

I prefer the 1st one because I now have a pin and can move for a choke or arm bar.

Edit:

That video of escapes is pretty good. If you can get into a move there is always an escape.

Pins are good and I have won with pins, but I prefer to have them tap out.|||Yes, there%26#039;s always a way out.

There are no strikes allowed in Judo, but you could always use them to get out. I myself would reach my left hand around to his face and dig into his eyes and grab his nose to pull him back. There are many many ways to get out of it. Maybe a boshiken strike to the ribs.

I can%26#039;t think of anything that would be allowed in Judo or any competitions though.|||Escapes from pillow hold

1. Bite armpit or nipple off

2. Right hand grabs nuts and twists em off or punches em.

3. Left hand comes up and eye rakes or presses the nerves under the lower jaw

4. Eagle claw to the love handles, really grind it in there and he%26#039;ll let go quick smart.
