Are leg attacks allowed in judo?

I mean for take downs. Like a wrestling double leg takedown or whatever. Say in Greco-Roman they don%26#039;t allow leg attacks, and I noticed that Judo is all trips and throws.|||Yes.|||Leg attacks are allowed in Judo but what paperchain said in his answer is incomplete. What he said is true but it depends on how you are grabbing the leg. You cannot grip the pants as an initial attack. So for example if you are taking a standard grip you cannot reach down with your left hand, grip your opponents pants by the right knee, and perform o uchi gari against the other leg. This rule likely eliminates ankle picks by gripping the pants at the bottom of the ankle as well.

On the other hand, lets say you are doing o uchi gari and your opponent tries to move or lift his leg out of the way to get out of the throw, you can grab the pants in that instance without penalty. Also, the new rules should not eliminate morote gari as a technique because when you perform morote gari correctly you are not grabbing the pants. Rather, you are using your hands to clip the opponent behind the knees.

The new rules are an attempt to eliminate the %26quot;koka judo%26quot; that you see in a lot of the men%26#039;s lightweight division matches. The really good lightweight judokas, the ones that win internationally, don%26#039;t have to resort to such b.s. tactics like grabbing pant legs as an initial attack.|||Yes! There are even judo names for them. Unfortunately you have to be slick with landing your opponent on his back or slick with your ground game to be effective because if you don%26#039;t win quickly you will have expended much energy in your takedowns... The referees where I%26#039;m at are pretty quick at stopping the match and standing you back up, which is frustrating. Here in Viet Nam they even changed regulations that you have to tie up with your opponent before doing a leg attack. This sucks especially when you are outweighed by 30kg!|||Well, trips ARE a leg attack. Those don%26#039;t exist in Greco-Roman.

There are also techniques similar to a double-leg takedown or an ankle pick.|||Not all Judo Throws are focus on the upper body, some of the

Takedowns are Greco-Roman-style Throws. But you are not allowed

to do them in the Tournament.|||Yes I think it%26#039;s called morote gari for double. There are also single leg takedowns ie kata ashi dori, kuchiki taoshi and kibisu gaeshi.|||no not any more starting from january 1st (yesterday) you cant touch the pants legs with your hands meaining you would get penalized for touching the pant leg
