Is it possible for a Marine to earn a black belt in judo while stationed in Okinawa, Japan?

Thinking about opening up a Dojo after the Marines. I want to get taught by the inovaters rather than the imitaters. |||*It is going to take you a long time.|||In my opinion it depends on how much you train and whether or not they are xenophobic. How long are you going to be stationed in Okinawa? In Japan, earning a shodan (1st degree black belt) is not that big of a deal in Japan so it is possible. As I understand it Marines that are stationed in Okinawa become one of two things as they supposedly have a lot of time on their hands:

1) A P/T stud.

2) An alcoholic

So, if you really have a lot of time in your hands and if you train every day and if people in Okinawa aren%26#039;t xenophobic toward Americans you could probably earn a shodan in a year in Japan if you train every day for a couple of hours a day. I don%26#039;t know how long a typical base assignment is these days but if you are there for a year or more you could do it for sure.|||If you spent 8 to 12 years there you could.

But you will not earn a Black belt in the 3 years, Marines are assigned to Okinawa.

That%26#039;s one of a huge differences between martial arts in asia and the states.

You actually have to earn your belts in asia.
