How is Kodokan Judo for self-defense?

I am thinking about going with Krav Maga or Kodokan Judo for self sefense purposes. Is one better than the other?|||i think for self defense u should go with krav maga!! krav maga says it is a self-defense and real life situation, judo says it is for take downs. hope it helps!!|||Both are good for self defense.Thou judo is more sport oriented in more recent years. Judo came from Ju-jitsu a Japanese fighting art of the samurai and is very effective in it self. Krav Maga is strictly a survival based self defense art and has some of the most practical easy to use techniques in its arsenal. So it is very well rounded in that respect. Hapkido is also another well round that uses the foundation throws and techniques of judo and but is also and extremely effective self defense art. Kinda the best of both worlds. But like all martial arts you get out of it what you put into it. good luck in your training|||Here%26#039;s some info on Kodokan Judo:|||Judo was created by a frail, small-framed Japanese man (Jigoro Kano - no disrespect intended) as a combat and contact sport so that people of all sizes and ages could be given opportunity in a sport/martial art that didn%26#039;t require alot of strength.

Krav Maga was created by Imi Lichtenfeild specifically for street self defense and there is also a branch of it that teaches techniques to Law Enforcement. There is no %26#039;competition%26#039; involved in Krav Maga and the classes often train in drills such as multiple opponents, with improvised weapons and verbal tactics.

Krav Maga is the way to go if, like you said, you want to do it for self defense purposes.|||After watching the way the stars of Human Weapon looked so totally fish out of water in the Krav Maga episode, and that its techniques clearly do work in a real fight situation, particularly against armed opponents, I%26#039;d go with it.
