Is Judo still considered a Martial Art?

I know Judo started off as a Martial Art, i just want to know is it just a sport now or is it still a Martial Art and a sport combined?

In other words has it lost it%26#039;s Martial side?|||Judo -- as well as many other combat sports -- are actually more martial than martial arts have become.

Anything that involves hitting, slamming, choking, or jointlocking a fully-resisting opponent is martial. Live drill and sparring is the %26#039;martial%26#039; part of martial arts. In fact, even olympic TKD ( shudder ) is more martial than an art that just does kata.

Point sparring -- the lowest form of all sparring -- is better than no sparring.

Judo, on the other hand, has full contact slams/throws, armlocks, and chokes. Plus, sparring (randori) is done on a regular basis. Judo is one of the most martial martial arts in existence.|||Judo is still, and will always be, a Japanese martial art.|||it is still considered a martial art, but it is also considered a form of wrestling by FILA (international federation of associated wrestling styles).|||um... yeah?! i know there%26#039;s a lot of talk about traditional martial arts being distorted and limited to what is now simply a sport. but, judo is far more practical than the other %26quot;sport-martial arts%26quot; out there. sorry, won%26#039;t drop names. but just watch the olympics and you%26#039;ll get my point.|||yep|||I believe it is a Martial Art.|||Yes Judo is considered a martial art, though many practice it for the same reason they practice ti kwon do(i think i spelt it wrong), and thats for the chance to get good enough to go to the olympics.|||not the strongest, but nevertheless it is a type|||I consider it a sport like amateur wrestling. I even consider Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a sport. Infact I wish all that traditional crap and belt grading system was obsolete.

They are all street certified. Ill take a judoka, a BJJ guy and an amateur wrestler over some karate guy any day.|||Judo is Martial first and foremost. it is still the most widely practiced martial art in the world today. additionally it is used by more police forces throughout the world than any other single martial. (including our own PPCT).|||no
