I am 13 and of medium build, Which should i learn judo or Karate?

I was just wondering if i should choose either of these. I want to be able to hold my own in a fight, as well as impress people while also bettering myself inside and out.|||If you can accept/adapt to breakfalling.....Judo

If not...Karate.

Best wishes :)***|||Ray the martial arts are not about impressing anyone. I%26#039;d drop that as a point when looking for a martial art. Flashy techniques are more likely to get you hurt. The real martial arts are not flashy, just effective. Either Karate of Judo is a good start. Basically it boils down to who is the best instructor in your area. A good instructor can be your best asset. A bad one will only waste your time. The prob,e is that most instructors are not tat well trained. Find someone that is well trained, and more interested in teaching skills than in promoting you in rank. If you find that then you have the instructor and style to study.

Best of Luck!|||If you wanna break boards go ahead with Karate.

If you wanna throw people around go with Judo.

For practicality, if you wanna be able to hold your own in a fight, you should try to look for full-contact Karate, great conditioning, etc.

Judo, though, has submission, and majority of fights end up on the ground. Though, Judo has a greater emphasis on throws then it does ground work, so I%26#039;d suggest you try BJJ instead for being able to %26quot;hold your own in a fight%26quot;.

Both of them, have discipline, should I%26#039;d assume you should be able to better yourself and regardless of your build you can do either.

If you want to impress people, Karate has some fancy kicks, though they may not be as fancy looking as your Tae Kwon Do friend. I wouldn%26#039;t try Judo throws outside the mat to impress, someone might get hurt.|||well if your trying to impress people (Girls, Friends or whatever) i wouldnt take any fighting classes unless you are intrested in fighting in a ring with glove and trunks, not just trying to pick fights and be villy bad *** at your school. Most fighting instructors can tell if you want to %26quot;impress people or if you really want to learn. But anyways Judo is for close range combat (throw%26#039;s, Short punces, and knees) im not to good in the tyekwondo horizen of fighting, my base is kickboxing and jiujitsu.

if you live in new mexico you should come down to the 505 den in albz. We can show you some stuff.|||Both of the first 2 to answer have it right.

1. If you aren%26#039;t interested in the art, don%26#039;t bother. You need to stick with it to make it work. Dedicate a lot of time, and work.

2. This can%26#039;t be stressed enough.... If you have a bad instructor you will be wasting your time. I know at your young age you will want to jump right out there and start, but take the time to check out both places. Talk to the instructors. Watch the students and how they interact with each other and the instructors.

Good luck man|||Hey. My littler brother has been doing karate since he was 4 and now is a black belt at the age of 10. And see what karate has tought him I would tell you go with karate. It tought him respect, perserverince, to be tough, to fight for something you really enjoy doing till the end. And a bonus if you do karate torn. you meet alot of great people that will be your friends for life. Not to mention even get to be on the cover of a karate magizen lol. I hope that helped you any later..:)|||karates pretty basic, simple, but effective. Judo is the same but the throws look kick ***. i would go for judo since all the fights ive been in usually go to grappling(not on the floor).

P.s i can breack a 2 inch thick block of wood on my head hurts like hell but i can do it. that is no indicator of skill.

flashy tends not to be effective, see badly taught kung fu, looks cool but works like ****.|||wrestling

It will make you a better person mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Wrestling will help you to hold your own in a fight and you will learn moves that will impress people if that is what you want to do.|||Ray, Martial arts is about expressing ones self in a fight and in real life. If you are in to grappling and on ground fighting do Judo if you like fighting with the foot and fist do karate|||Judo definitely. After seeing judo technicians like Karo Parisiyan in the ring, flippin%26#039; people over with such finesse%26#039;...it%26#039;s a thing of beauty.|||Choose the one you are most interested in.|||Do, karate. Look at what happened to Chuck Norris XD
