Is your purpose to have started Judo related to Japan?

Judo%26#039;s origin is in Japan.

I would like to ask people who play judo whether the purpose to have started Juro is related to Japan or not.

If yes please let me know the detail of your interest in Japan.|||I initially studied Judo in 1968 as a method of self-defense.

I fell in love with Kodokan Judo and became interested in Japan, not only as the place where Kodokan Judo was founded, but also because the Japanese have the best Judo and a great Judo attitude.

The only reason I%26#039;ve ever wanted to go to Japan was to visit the Japanese police Judo dojos and the Kodokan.

Kodokan Judo was one of the best things that has ever happened to me and has positively shaped my life attitudes. Dr. Kano did a good job and he was a genius.|||Originally I started Judo because it was offered and the price was right. i went on to enjoy it. Initially I didn%26#039;t know what Judo was. I also am interested in the culture.

Edit:

You don%26#039;t play Judo. You practice Judo. Judokas are Judo practitioners.|||Well, I originally started Judo because my father forced me but I have since started loving Japan, initially because of manga and then my own personal study of their culture. I just think that their clothes, traditions and even the exotic electro-JPop modern culture with Lolita fashions thrown in are extraordinary.|||I%26#039;m a judoka but I%26#039;m only slightly interested in Japan. Honestly I don%26#039;t care much about Japanese culture.|||Japan is very interesting because of Aikido, Judo and some other martial arts.|||I practice both Aikido and Judo and because of those I dip my feet into understanding Shinto but I don%26#039;t care where they come from.|||i don%26#039;t take judo, but my purpose of studying each art i%26#039;ve taken had almost nothing to do with the culture it came from.

How can I find out when the next Olympic Judo and TKD matches are on? I looked it up online but ?

I can%26#039;t find a listing for after today. Are the Judo and TKD matches over?|||Neither Judo or TKD made it on to the TV schedules.

Judo is over. It was completed last week.

Taekwondo starts tomorrow at about 6:00 PM Pacific Time.

They will have live streams on nbcolympics.com. Once you get past a single commercial when the stream begins, there are no further interruptions unless your stream glitches.|||Here is a link to the draw for the Olympic TKD matches.

As the other guy said, the only way to watch them in the US is via the NBC Olympic website.

Whats the difference between a jujitsu and a judo uniform?

I was wondering a if jujitsu uniform is shaped differently than a judo uniform.|||A ju-jitsu uniform usually has slightly shorter sleeves that just come down past the elbow and don%26#039;t have to be rolled up. Also the top or coat is not as long and does not come down to the thighs like a judo gi does and the pants have an extra layer of material sewn into the knee so they don%26#039;t wear out and it also offers a little extra padding for the knee. Ju-jitsu gis also are designed and sized so there is not a lot of extra material for grabbing and tugging or pulling on.|||Some schools use the same gi, and some companies market the exact same gi for both styles. But, basically a Judo gi has always been much heavier and baggier in fit. This is because in Judo, the same as Jujitsu, you are going to be clenching the material for a good portion of each class for throws.

Jujitsu has become a lot more popular after the Gracie%26#039;s came to America and started doing exhibitions. An industry has sprouted up to serve that interest, so now you can find Jujitsu specific uniforms just about any place where they sell martial arts equipment. They tend to be lighter and little more fit than the old Judo gi.

I do Judo and like it very much, but i am unsure of how i can practice at home. What can i do out of the dojo?

Other martial arts such as kickboxing can practice on pads or punchbags. I would like to dedicate more of my own time to Judo, as my club is only and hour and a quarter a week. What can i do outside of the dojo to progress. Thanks in advance everybody.|||I had the same problem, but what I did was to try and act out the moves. It looks a like ridiculous if you step back and do it, but in the long run it helps out big time when you get on the mat. I know other martial arts have forms to do training solo, naybe you could make up your own for the same.|||One of the things that the school had where I studied Judo at as a child was a pole with a piece of canvas rolled up like a towel about 8-10 feet long. People would use this while it was wrapped around the pole to move in on and hold and tug on as they practiced doing their shoulder and hip throws. I have also seen people use their belts wrapped around a tree or post and do this also. It helps develop the foot work in setting up the throw as well as develops your grip strength and your arm, shoulder and lower back muscles that you use it doing these throws. They also now make wrestling type mannequins that are just like a person that you can use to practice maneuvering and doing chokes and holds on while on the ground that you may want to consider.|||You can do uchikomi against a wall to practice leg sweeps. Just put your hands on the wall and practice your footwork on your entries for your leg sweeps.

If you have a pole around, you can get a bungee cord (your belt works too) and do uchikomi for your forward throws. Just wrap the cord or belt around the pole.|||i am an orange belt and i lift wieghts and run around my the park a few times.i go on my bike for my legs too ;)|||don麓t you have a girlfriend?? :)) practice on her instead...|||Everyone in all martial arts faces this challenge at some point in their journey.

You might want to try to find something representative of a training partner. That could be a dummy you make up which weighs the same as a person and has arms and legs you can practice with. I%26#039;ve seen these in a few schools, and I%26#039;ve known martial artists to make them up themselves.

You may also want to find out if anyone else at your class has the same problem, and try to arrange to meet for training sessions with them outside of regular class times. If you are feeling the need for more practice time, someone else is also probably feeling the same need.

Have you checked with your instructor/s. They undoubtedly face the same question from students frequently, so they may have some good alternative suggestions you may not hear on this forum. That%26#039;s what they are there for after all, to help you, guide you, and provide you with opportunities. - so use %26#039;em :)

Good luck!

What do you guys think about Yoshinkan Aikido vs Aikikai vs Judo?

All schools are relatively close, but what are your thoughts? I know it is all about whether the Sensei (s) are good teachers, but what else? what about self defense? I took Judo for about 1 1/2 years and am very new to Aikido.. thanks in advance for any of your comments. Also, what about for kids? My girl is 5 and I want to put her in one of them..|||I%26#039;ll go more for aikido for you will learn more practical self-defense techniques there. Aikido is more on grappling. It%26#039;s a good idea to enroll kids in aikido but wait %26#039;till at least they are 7 years old and up. the best age to start in martial arts are the ages 12, 13 or 14. For people who are older, it is never tooo late.|||I%26#039;m sure a lot of people here can answer your question regarding the 2 arts you mention. I just wanna answer the part about enrolling your 5 year old daughter. I personally wouldn%26#039;t recommend enrolling her in a grappling art at such a young age, Judo and Aikido usually requires students to pair up and apply throws and joint manipulation techniques on each other. And at 5 yrs old, she is still too young in my opinion, even with adult supervision, to attempt applying these techniques, accidents are prone to happen often. The recommended age for kids to start in these arts is usually around 13 to 14 when their hormones starts to act up. If you really wanna enroll her in a martial art, try Karate, Wu Shu or TKD, these arts focus more on personal development and discipline so a child would benefit more from these. Besides, you don%26#039;t want her to actually apply throws, joint locks and choke holds on her playmates at home do you?

Can a person who is very skilled in kick boxing, or regular boxing, or judo, etc., hold his/her own when ?

attacked by a seasoned street fighter?|||Most likely not, it would depend on the individual. Street fighting has no rules, so someone who%26#039;s used to fighting like that will hold somewhat of an advantage. That%26#039;s assuming they%26#039;re the same size.

Most parents enroll their children in those classes do so not because they want the kids to be able to defend themselves on the street though. Most like what the kids will learn in the class, in terms of gaining self esteem and discipline.
